Pioneers of Scandinavian descent settled the area in the 1850s. Mt. Pleasant was originally called Hambleton and was settled in 1859.

The Blackhawk wars were fought along the road
that is now Hwy 89, when Ute warriors and settlers struggled to gain stewardship of the land.
  
Mt. Pleasant is also the home of Wasatch Academy, a four-year private boarding school, founded in 1875 and listed on the Historical Register.
    
Carnegie Library was built in 1917 with a $10,000 grant from philanthropist-millionaire Andrew Carnegie, the library is one of only three Carnegie libraries in Utah designed in the historic Prairie style to survive. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
